Biography
Y.G. Ko, Ph.D is professor at School of Materials Science and Engineering, Yeungnam University. He has received his doctorate from POSTECH and continued his postdoctoral course at Department of Materials Science and Engineering, MIT. He has been leading a research group of Plasticity Control and Mechanical Modeling Laboratory. He has published more than 100 SCI papers in the fields of physical deformation and chemical coating. The representative articles are ‘A Cross-Shear Deformation for Optimizing the Strength and Ductility of AZ31 Magnesium Alloys’ (Scientific Reports, 2016) and ‘Synergistic Influence of Inorganic Oxides (ZrO2 and SiO2) with N2H4 to Protect Composite Coatings Obtained via Plasma Electrolyte Oxidation on Mg Alloy’ (Phys. Chem. Chem. Phys., 2017).
Research Interest
Prof. Ko and his research group have focused on (i) the development of the nanostructured materials via cutting-edge forming technology and (ii) the modification of the surface structure via plasma-based coating. Since 2003, his researches have combined expertise in controlling plasticity and manipulating microstruture of light metallic materials via asymmetrical rolling. On the other hand, the surface matter with functional performances in a variety of the applied science fields has been investigated by means of plasma electrolytic oxidation in the eletrolyte with organic/inorganic compounds. In addition, his current research activities concentrated on phase transformation and its kinetics through sub-zero and flash processings on ferrous materials in order to improve the combination of strength and ductility at room and high temperatures.
